Prioritized accounts for the European growth motion. Four verticals, entry path notes for each, and why the ESSEC network, Safran relationship, and Palantir-DGSI credential make the outreach calculus far stronger than a cold-country entry.
Four things changed the French enterprise AI procurement environment between SmartOne's 2022-2023 attempt and today: ChatGPT normalized AI for every executive, Mistral gave France a national AI champion, LLM fragmentation broke the "one vendor" model so every enterprise now needs custom training data, and the regulatory stack (DORA, NIS2, EU AI Act) created compliance-driven procurement where certified vendors win. SmartOne's SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications are procurement gates in 2026 that did not exist as gates in 2022.
Highest priority
Safran is a current SmartOne client (confirmed on the May 15 call). Safran acquired Preligens (now Safran.AI) in 2024 and operates a certified annotation center in Rennes for sensitive data. Safran.AI is actively expanding and has stated needs for annotation at scale.
Approach Safran for a formal framework agreement. This converts the current ad hoc relationship into a re-qualifying-free channel for new programs. Request reference letter or case study rights as part of any new scope conversation.
Airbus received a 50M euro framework from the French DGA in December 2025 to integrate AI into French armed forces information systems. Airbus is also an anchor Mistral Compute client. AI annotation and model evaluation are upstream requirements for any sustained AI deployment program.
Sub-contractor to Airbus on DGA programs. The Safran reference is a relevant credential for Airbus's procurement team. ESSEC alumni network includes Airbus employees; use it for warm introduction to the AI programs team rather than cold outreach through procurement.
Dassault Aviation and Thales announced a strategic partnership in November 2025 to develop "controlled and supervised" AI for air combat applications. cortAIx is Thales's AI accelerator. annotation and model evaluation are direct requirements for the AI models these programs produce.
Thales is harder to enter without a defense-prime credential. Approach via Safran reference after the Safran framework agreement is in place. The cortAIx team participates in French AI ecosystem events (Paris AI Summit network); presence at those events is a low-cost entry to relationship building.
Schneider Electric runs significant AI programs in energy management and predictive maintenance. Industrial time-series and sensor data annotation aligns with SmartOne's temporal data capabilities. Less defense-sensitive than Airbus or Thales; procurement process is faster for commercial programs.
ESSEC alumni network. Schneider Electric employs ESSEC graduates in its digital transformation and AI teams. The temporal annotation and IoT sensor-data credential from SmartOne's robotics portfolio is directly applicable.
Second priority DORA compliance is the cold-outreach hook for every Tier-1 bank.
BNP is an anchor Mistral client and participates in the AI Impact Summit alongside Dassault Systemes and Thales. AI programs cover fraud detection, customer service, risk modeling, and document processing. DORA enforcement (January 2025) means BNP must now document data quality for AI models used in regulated workflows. A vendor with SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 is a natural fit.
ESSEC alumni network is the highest-leverage entry. BNP is a known ESSEC-alumni-dense organization. The DORA hook works as a cold outreach: "Your DORA implementation requires documented data provenance. Here is how our clients in the US financial sector handled it."
SocGen has active AI programs in risk modeling and customer service. DORA enforcement creates the same compliance-driven procurement dynamic as BNP. Less publicly vocal about AI vendors; the conversation starts at the AI team level, not procurement.
Second-tier priority after BNP. Use a BNP POC reference to open SocGen conversations. ESSEC alumni connection first; procurement second.
Third priority Visual AI credential from SmartOne's portfolio is the opener here.
LVMH has an active AI lab. Visual AI for fashion (virtual try-on, product tagging, image annotation) is in SmartOne's confirmed case study portfolio. The case study vignette for LVMH outreach: describe the virtual apparel try-on annotation work, volume, accuracy rate, and turnaround without naming the original client.
ESSEC alumni at LVMH's digital and technology division. The visual AI credential is the hook. The French entity (SMARTONE EU SAS) needs to be active and capitalized before this outreach happens; a 1,500 euro K-Bis does not impress LVMH procurement.
Carrefour runs logistics and inventory AI programs. Object detection and annotation for robotics-based warehouse systems aligns with SmartOne's Physical AI capabilities. Carrefour is one of the largest employers in France and has an active digital transformation program.
Physical AI and robotics credential is the opener. Less relationship-driven than the industrial primes; procurement teams at major French retailers are more open to structured proposals. Contact via the Hub France IA network after SmartOne is listed on their startup map.
Channel, not direct SmartOne cannot win French government prime contracts as a Canadian-Malagasy company. The relevant entry is as a sub to a French prime.
Station F hosts the F/ai program with Mistral, Microsoft, Meta, Google, AWS, OpenAI, and Anthropic. Every F/ai portfolio company building an AI product is a potential SmartOne client. A Mistral partnership (even informal) would provide introductions into this network. Paris surpassed London as Europe's top startup hub in Dealroom's Global Tech Ecosystem Index 2025.
Request introduction to Mistral's BD team via ESSEC connection or Station F network. A Mistral preferred-vendor program (even informal) that routes data-needing clients to SmartOne is a high-leverage, low-cost channel play.
Bpifrance committed 10 billion euros to the French AI ecosystem by 2029. Companies receiving Bpifrance AI grants in 2024 and 2025 are actively building AI systems and need data. As of end-2024, Bpifrance deployed 3.4 billion euros in AI-themed projects. The Bpifrance Hub offers co-sell programs. SMARTONE EU SAS can apply as a French entity.
Request Bpifrance Hub membership. This places SmartOne EU SAS in the directory that Bpifrance portfolio companies consult when looking for specialized AI vendors. Low cost; high visibility signal that SmartOne is serious about France.
